Technical Information About the Hearing Test

The hearing test was concieved of by Craig Johnson and Adam Weinstein. Programming was done in LiveStage Pro, from Totally Hip Software. The test itself is a Quicktime movie that utilitzes the sprites and the built-in MIDI instruments that accompany Quicktime.

The calibration portion of the hearing test plays five 2000Hz tones that follow a linear decrease in volume. To calibrate the test properly, the fourth sound should be barely audible and the fifth sound should not be audible.

The testing portion of the hearing test plays 1000, 2000, and 3000 Hz tones that follow a four-step linear decrease in volume. Depending on the accuracy of calibration, a person with hearing loss may not hear the lower volumes of some of the tones.
